Hamilton Beach TrueAir Air Purifier: An Overview
The Hamilton Beach TrueAir Air Purifier is a compact air purifier designed to clean the air in small rooms.
It uses a permanent HEPA-grade filter to capture dust, pollen, and other allergens, as well as a carbon zeolite filter to remove odors from pets, cooking, and smoking.
The TrueAir is designed to be easy to use, with simple controls and a compact design that makes it easy to move from room to room.
It’s also designed to be energy-efficient with low power consumption, which is a plus point for me.
Key Features
The Hamilton Beach TrueAir Air Purifier has several features that make it a popular choice for those looking to improve the air quality in their home.
Some of its key features include:
- Permanent HEPA-grade filter: The TrueAir uses a permanent HEPA-grade filter that can be vacuumed clean, eliminating the need for costly filter replacements.
- Carbon Zeolite filter: In addition to the HEPA filter, the TrueAir also has a carbon filter that helps remove odors from pets, cooking, and smoking.
- Compact design: The TrueAir is designed to be compact and portable, making it easy to move from room to room.
- Low power consumption: The TrueAir is energy-efficient, with a low power consumption of about 31kwh per hour (24-hour use). It makes it an affordable choice for those who want to improve the air quality in their home without breaking the bank.
Performance
I have been using the Hamilton Beach TrueAir Air Purifier for a few weeks now, and I have to say that the performance is mediocre at best.
The air cleaning performance is subpar, and it struggles to remove odors and allergens from the air.
The TrueAir uses a permanent HEPA-grade filter (as opposed to True HEPA that other purifiers offer,) and it does not seem to be effective at capturing small particles.
I noticed that dust and pollen were still present in the air, even after running the purifier for several hours.
Noise Level
One thing I like about the Hamilton Beach TrueAir Air Purifier is that it is very quiet.
It has a noise level of 25 decibels, which is equivalent to a whisper.
I can easily run the purifier in my bedroom at night without being disturbed by the noise.
However, the low noise level comes at a cost.
TrueAir has low-quality controls that are difficult to use.
The buttons are not labeled clearly, and it is hard to tell whether the purifier is on or off.
The operating cost is also high since it requires expensive filters that must be replaced every few months.
While it may be quiet, it does not do a good job of cleaning the air, and the controls and operating costs are both drawbacks.
Appearance and Size
As someone who has personally used the Hamilton Beach TrueAir Air Purifier, I found its design to be quite simple and straightforward.
The air purifier is compact and lightweight, making it easy to move around from room to room.
I liked that you can use it either horizontally or vertically, depending on the corner or space you would place it.
The Hamilton Beach TrueAir Air Purifier has a sleek, modern design that blends well with most home decor.
It comes in white color with a simple, no-fuss design that is easy on the eyes.
The air purifier is small in size, making it perfect for use in small rooms such as bedrooms, nurseries, and home offices.
Ease of Use
The air purifier features a simple, one-button control that should make it easy to use.
But the thing is, it’s confusing and pretty difficult to understand.
Maintenance
As with any other purifier, maintaining the Hamilton Beach TrueAir Air Purifier is essential to ensure its optimal performance.
Here are the two main maintenance that we did to test how easy or difficult it is.
Filter Replacement
The Hamilton Beach TrueAir Air Purifier comes with a permanent HEPA-grade filter which you can just vacuum clean.
But of course, it’s still recommended to replace them every 6 months or so.
The carbon zeolite filter that eliminates odors, on the other hand, must be replaced every 3-6 months.
You can check if the filter needs replacement thru the indicator paper that you can place in the slot on the front part of the purifier.
Most users weren’t aware of this as there were no upfront instructions about it (or at least, none that I saw.)
If you don’t mind this feature at all, you can easily check the filter’s condition anyway by opening the front cover and inspecting it.
If the filter is dirty, it’s time to replace it.
Here’s how I changed the filter:
- Turn off the air purifier and unplug it from the power outlet.
- Open the front cover of the air purifier.
- Remove the old filter and discard it.
- Install the new filter by aligning the arrows on the filter with the arrows on the air purifier.
- Close the front cover and plug in the air purifier.
Cleaning
Apart from replacing the filter, it’s best to clean the air purifier regularly to remove dust and other particles that accumulate on its surface.
Cleaning the air purifier is easy and only takes a few minutes.
To clean the air purifier, follow these steps:
- Turn off the air purifier and unplug it from the power outlet.
- Remove the front cover of the air purifier.
- Use a soft cloth or brush to clean the surface of the air purifier from dust and debris.
- If necessary, use a mild detergent and water to clean the surface of the air purifier.
- Dry the air purifier with a clean cloth before reinstalling the front cover.
Remember to replace the filter every 6 months and clean the air purifier regularly to keep it working efficiently.
Price and Value
When I was shopping around for an air purifier, I was looking for something affordable.
The Hamilton Beach TrueAir Air Purifier seemed to fit the bill.
At a price point of about $64.99 on Amazon at the time of the review, it was one of the most affordable air purifiers on the market.
One thing to keep in mind is that the Hamilton Beach TrueAir Air Purifier is designed for small rooms up to 140 square feet.
If you have a larger room, you may need to purchase more than one air purifier to purify the air adequately.
Is it cost-effective? Honestly and regrettably, I think not.
You can buy other air purifier brands within the same price range, but they could perform way better.

Possible Alternatives to Hamilton Beach TrueAir Air Purifier
If the Hamilton Beach TrueAir air purifier doesn’t seem like the best purifier for your needs, there are other options that you can get for almost the same price.
Here are three air purifiers that are priced between $50 to $70 that you can also consider.
Mooka Air Purifier ($59.97)
This air purifier is a great option for those with a large space but are on a budget.
It features an H13 True HEPA filter that captures 99.97% of dust and allergens as small as 0.3 microns.
It also has an activated carbon filter that helps to reduce odors.
This Mooka Air Purifier is suitable for rooms up to 1076 square feet and has 4 fan speeds.

This air purifier is a great option for those who want an air purifier to counter the pollutants in their home.
It has an Oscillating Intake process that collects all particles in a tornado motion which helps maximize efficiency while distributing fresh air.
I like that it can cover 400 square feet of space but only uses 25 watts of power.
Hamilton Beach TrueAir Air Purifier: Is It Worth It?
Overall, my experience with the Hamilton Beach TrueAir Air Purifier was not the best compared to all the other purifiers I’ve tried.
While it is affordable and compact, its performance is mediocre at best.
The air cleaning performance is poor, and the controls are low-quality, making it difficult to use.
Also, the filters and operating cost is expensive in the long run.
If you are looking for a high-performing air purifier, this may not be the best option for you.
However, if you have a small space and are on a tight budget, it may be worth considering.
If I’m being honest, I would rather look at other air purifiers before deciding on the Hamilton Beach TrueAir.
While it may be tempting to choose an affordable option, it’s important to prioritize air cleaning performance and quality controls to ensure that you get a reliable and effective air purifier.
